Other Construction Projects
A number of capital improvement projects that the Town is currently implementing are described below.
Utility Projects
Coburn Street Area - Water & Sewer Improvements
New water and wastewater infrastructure within the Coburn Street area will upgrade the Town’s systems.
During the 2011 construction season, the contractor for the Coburn Street Area - Water & Sewer Improvements has successfully installed:
- 2,060 Feet of Water Main Pipeline
- 165 Feet of Water Main Service Pipeline
- 1,960 Feet of Sewer Main Pipeline
- 710 Feet of Sewer Main Service Pipeline
- 25 Feet of Storm Drainage Pipeline
Construction Update: The contractor for the Coburn Street Area - Water & Sewer Improvements Project has wrapped up construction activities for the 2011 construction season. In the spring of 2012, the contractor will mobilize and complete the water main and sewer main upgrades.
Grove Street Water Pump Station

The Grove Street Water Pump Station was built in 1968 and supplies water to the northwest pressure system by pumping water to the Beebe water storage tanks. The pumps are being upgraded to keep up with current and future water demand. Construction commenced last winter and has included the installation of three 50 horsepower pumps and replacement of piping, valves, HVAC equipment, instrumentation and control and electrical equipment. Construction of a standalone engine/generator with a sound attenuating enclosure and a concrete diesel fuel tank have been installed at the site. In addition, there have been architectural improvements to the station including roof replacement and new doors, windows and siding.
Construction Update: The majority of the work has been completed. Completion of interior work is ongoing and the station will be back online this winter. Paving and other exterior work will be completed in the spring of 2012.
Pleasant Street Water Pump Station

The Pleasant Street Water Pump Station was built in 1962 and serves the southwestern portion of the Town, including Technology (Tech) Park. The station draws water from the MWRA's MetroWest Tunnel and pumps it into the Town's water distribution system. Tech Park is the center of Genzyme's growing research and development program. New production facilities are planned and will result in several hundred new science and process control jobs. To support this growing need for infrastructure support, the station’s pumping capacity is being upgraded by approximately 50 percent. Construction commenced last summer and has included the installation of three 150 horsepower pumps and replacement of piping, valves, HVAC equipment, instrumentation and control and electrical equipment. Pleasant Street Water Transmission Main Replacement
A new water transmission main will meet current and future Tech Park demand as part of the Genzyme Infrastructure Support Program.

During the 2011 construction season, the contractor for the Pleasant Street Water Transmission Main Replacement Project has successfully installed:
- 2,200 Feet of Water Main Pipeline
- 1 Box Culvert Crossing Roaring Brook
Construction Update: The Pleasant Street Water Transmission Main Replacement Project will continue and will be completed in 2012.
Roadway Projects
Beaver/Kendall/Leland Intersection Improvements
Curb-line adjustments, traffic islands and other improvements will address safety concerns in the area.
Construction Update: Improvements of the Beaver/Kendall/Leland Intersection are complete.
Danforth Street Bridge Reconstruction
MassDOT will rehabilitate the existing bridge crossing the Sudbury River.

Fountain Street Bridge Replacement
MassDOT will replace the existing bridge over the MBTA and CSX Railroad.

State Street Roadway Improvements
Reconstruction of a ½-mile segment of roadway is the final phase of work following completion of water and sewer main replacement.

- 28 Driveway Aprons
- 2,900 Feet of Sidewalk Reconstruction
- 3 Raised Tables
Construction Update:
The contractor for the State Street Roadway Reconstruction Project has wrapped up construction activities for the 2011 construction season. In the spring of 2012, the contractor will mobilize to perform final punch list items.
